Sausalito and Alcatraz

There are so many places to see out and about San Francisco. Walk the Golden Gate bridge and check out the amazing San Francisco skyline

Golden Gate bridge leads not only to the beautiful and charming Sausalito – a very cute town just across the bridge.

I took a ferry from San Francisco to Sausalito which took 30 min and one way ticket is just under $10. You can also drive there or take a bus. On the way back I took a bus straight to SFO airport – don’t do the same mistake as me and carry some cash for the shuttle bus as you can not pay by card but buy a ticked from the driver by cash – was quite pricey to – about $20 but that’s how airport shuttles make money.

One big attraction of course is the Alcatraz Island which is a part of part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. You can take a ferry and with excursion from Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco. One option is a  2.5 hour excursion that costs $28 with Alcatraz Cruses. I ran out of days – so I left is for the next time. Besides, one day I want to do the Escape swim from the legendary Alcatraz prison – yes there is an actual open water swimming competition called Alcatraz Shakfest Swim – it is 1.5 miles and happens in May. That is the same route by which Anglin Brothers and Frank Lee Morris successfully escaped from Alcatraz on the night of June 12, 1962

And again the mysteriously marvelous Golden Gate bridge :)
