hidden gem Zadar in gorgeous Croatia
Croatia has many must see spots like Slit, Dubrovnik and Krka which I are on my buckletlist. But I want to tell you about a hidden gem in Croatia: Zadar
Apart from having the most beautiful sunset in the world (according to Alfred Hitchcock and me, and million other travelers) Zadar is a charming little city with with white stone streets paved by the Romans, harbor built by Venetians combining gorgeous sights from the past and beautiful blue Adriatic sea.
The Old town of Zadar is located on a peninsula around 20min drive from Zadar airport. Airport bus costs 25kn and taxi around 120-160kn. You can get to Zadar with a private plane, if you don’t have one yet you can also get there with Ryanair..
There are a few resorts Diklo and Boric around 10min drive away. We rented bicycles for a day (100kn each) and cycled by the coast. We rented a jest-ski for 250kn for 15min and got massages at one of the best resorts in the area Falkensteiner Club Borik
We however chose to rent an apartment in the Old Town as we wanted to be in walking distance of everything. It is very popular to rent apartments rather than hotels in Croatia, we found our holiday apartment rental on booking.com
There are a few nice beach bars on either side of the city. Check out Hitch bar just 10min walk from the old town in the Kolovare beach or Bamboo beach bar – a bit further away (it took us 10-15 min to cycle there from old town/city center) on the other side of Zadar.
Another reason why Zadar should be on your bucketlist is location. Zadar is located near many must see places in Croatia: Plitvice lakes and waterfalls are just few hour drive away, Krka National par is also a short drive away, and you can sail to nearby Kornati islands from Zadar even just for a daytrip. We took a 9hour long boat trip to Kornati National park just for 300kn.
I am so much in love with Croatia because it is so breathtaking beautiful and in the same time simple and unpretentious
