Romantic getaway in Mallorca
One of the most romantic getaway spots in Mallorca is Illetas. It is just 20min taxi ride away from the airport and 10min from Palma. The taxi from airport will cost you about 30eur or about 40eur at night. You can also get there with bus number 3 from Palma which is just 1,5eur but you will have to switch buses as from airport to Palma you have to take bus number 1.
Since we landed very late, we opted to get to hotel with a taxi and to take the bus when we went to Palma and back to the airport. Most hotels are lined up right next to each other: Hotel Illetas and BonSol Resort & Spa were right next to our hotel. What I love about this area that it is relatively less discovered and overrun by tour operator as Magaluf and Palmanova and has mostly independent travelers.
There are a few nice hotels in Illetas to choose from. This time we stayed at Playa Marina Europe and we did enjoy it (definitely better than the hotels in Palmanova or Magaluf). The few was fabulous, nice breakfast overlooking the sea, access, to sea and a swimming pool.
The only two negative points were: bartender not able to mix a decent cocktail and in September all rooms were booked so it was not possible to get a double bed (instead of two single mattresses put together). So the service could be better. That said, Playa Marina is one of the most affordable hotels in Illetas and over all we were happy with it although it could be even better with some improvements.
Just look at the view – not the wort thing to wake up to, right? :)
If you want to score a better hotel for less, try going in the beginning or end of season, like October. This time we went in mid September and it was still 32 degrees and fabulous weather so most years October is still beach weather.
Riu Palace Bonaza Place is just next doors and offers a bit more: it is slightly bigger and younger with better service and also has an indoor wellness area. Their pool is quite an eye candy too!
There are 3 small sandy beaches just few minute walk away from the hotel. Bonus points for me – not too many families with small children (as you have to climb a few stairs to access this heaven so it is perfect for couples and adults. We had a glass of sangria at one of the beach cafes in Balneario Illetas and Virtual Club that turns into a bar in the evening called Virtual Club (with a sun deck in the photo below). P.S. There are plenty of family friendly areas and beaches in Mallorca though.
We went to Mallorca only for a weekend and it is doable since it is easy to get around. From Illetas the bus number 3 goes every 10 minutes to Palma if you want to go for some sightseeing in the city or for drinks in the evening.
Pictures don’t do justice – Mallorca is gorgeous! Go and dip in the the Mediterranean Sea :)
